It is designed to keep flare from reaching the lens while shooting. The HB 85 Lens Hood, designed specifically for the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24 70mm f 4 S lens, reduces flare by diverting stray light away from the lens. The lens is further shielded by the hood against unintentional knocks, bumps, and scratches.
